The Israeli Association for Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy is a non-profit organization, established to serve as a professional home for psychotherapists who identify themselves with the psychoanalytic point of view and for other individuals, scientists and artists, who are interested in psychoanalytic thinking. The association was established in 1998 by the initiative of the late Dr. Yossi Hadar and its first committee members. The association aims to extend and deepen the knowledge of its members, enhance their training and to update members on current developments in psychoanalytic psychotherapy, supervision and psycho-diagnostics. Consequently, the association places emphasis on its ongoing activities and the continuous professional discourse enabled by its conferences. IAPP has three sections: adult psychotherapy, child and adolescent psychotherapy and psychoanalytic couple psychotherapy.
IAPP is currently a member of the WCP, World Council of Psychotherapy, an NGO working to promote psychotherapy and mental health throughout the world through the activities of the UN.
The association’s activities include:
Lectures, workshops and conferences on a monthly basis in each of three sections. these enable discourse on clinical or theoretical papers that are presented, as well as new ideas or initiatives by members.
Conferences organized around chosen topics.
The association initiates activities that create space for reflection on the reality of Israel, which is permeated by stress and violence, both regarding the therapeutic and social arenas.
The association aims to deepen its relationship with the public sector, in order to increase and broaden psychoanalytic knowledge and training in those spheres.
Currently there are 150 fee-paying members, all fully trained psychoanalytic psychotherapists, accepted into full membership based upon close scrutiny of their credentials.
